My Campaign Pledge
February 20th, 2007
I have been doing my best to steer clear from these types of articles anyway but I resolve to do my very best this campaign season NOT to post or link to articles that detail whether or not a) A black person can be president b) A woman can be president c) A mormon can be president d) A Hispanic or any other ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation or non-native-citizen can be president. (Just for the record, no, that last one cannot!)
Frankly looking at this bunch of candidates each and every one of them regardless of their race, color etc. can give you plenty of reasons not to vote for them, each one not having anything to do with their genetic makeup. Maybe Ralph Nader has something genetic in him that precludes him from being president, I don’t know, he seems to lose a lot. Otherwise, I think we are fine.
There is a thing about firsts in anything for this world. It seems like a big deal until it actually happens, at which point they no longer are firsts but seconds, thirds, fourths and so on. I was on a plane a few weeks ago. I didn’t marvel at the ability to fly. Had I been there during the first flight, yeah, I would be excited. Now its just a hassle.
If it is Hillary or Mitt or Obama or any of them it will be exciting. Then week four of their presidency will happen and we will suddenly see them not as their makeup physically but how they are made mentally. So in short, unless one of these factors really does preclude them from being president it isn’t really news and I don’t think there is much to it. So I will stay away. I hope you will too!
