McCain Drops to Fourth in LA Times/Bloomberg Poll
April 12th, 2007
More bad news for McCain, he has now seen the worst poll showing since the start of the campaign coming in third place in A Los Angeles Times/Bloomberg poll. Giuliani still takes the top spot with 29% and politician/actor Fred Thompson who isn’t in the race comes in second at 15%. McCain is a strong third with 12% but for a man who only months ago was seen the the likely frontrunner and who raised the least amount amongst the top three polling in Q1 this is a bad sign.
From the LA Times:
“Thompson is a Reagan conservative, and that’s what I want,” said Robert Little, a poll respondent in Duluth, Ga., who views other leading Republican candidates as unreliable allies on social issues.
Coming in fourth for the Republicans is Gov. Mitt Romney with just 8%.
The polling also gave some further indication of why McCain is seeing his popularity plummet:
The survey also shows significant Republican desire to move beyond the George W. Bush era: 61% of Republican voters surveyed said they wanted the next GOP nominee to campaign on a platform of moving in a new direction. Only 30% said the nominee should call for continuing Bush policies.
