The One Where Clinton Came Back

November 16th, 2007

Well yesterday I gave three bits of advice and it seems one person was thinking the same way I was and two people were not. My thoughts boiled down to this:

1) Clinton, be direct and be prepared to launch a full on assault if attacked.
2) Obama, stop the attacking because you cannot possibly win in that arena and actually explain to us how you will live up to the rhetoric and form policy.
3) Edwards, stop the attacks and move back to the messages of hope.

Clinton got it right, Obama & Edwards failed miserably. That pretty much sums up my thoughts on the debate. So here are a few from others.

David Yepsen:

Barack Obama had only an average night, and on a couple of questions he seemed flummoxed. On the question of driver’s licenses for immigrants here illegally, his answer was as nuanced and fuzzy as Clinton’s was a couple of weeks ago. Moderator Wolf Blitzer underscored Obama’s fumbling by reminding him the question “is sort of available for a yes or no answer.” By contrast, Clinton gave the answer she should have in the last debate:

“No.”

Also, Obama got booed when he accused Clinton of using logic worthy of Mitt Romney and Rudy Giuliani. (That did seem a little canned. His handlers need to provide him some fresh material.)

Roger Simon:

In a Democratic debate here Thursday night, Hillary Clinton was not the passive, parsing, punching bag that she was at the last debate in Philadelphia two weeks ago.

She gave as good as she got. And those who tried to kick her, stubbed their toes.

It was natural for Obama to fumble.
