Following up on her call in November for the President to renounce building permanent bases in Iraq Clinton is now proposing legislation that would bar what are known as “status of force agreements” between the President and Iraq. The agreements being put forward by the administration amount to long-term American commitments.

Clinton’s legislation would deny funding for these SOFA agreements and ensure that they do not carry the force of law like actual treaties which need to be authorized by the Congress.
