Clinton Campaign Denies Forwarding Photo to Drudge, Attacks Media

February 25th, 2008

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson denies that the Clinton team leaked a photo of Senator Barack Obama in African garb to The Drudge Report and as CNN puts it lashed out at the media. Also available an mp3 from Mark Halperin of Wolfson’s conference call to reporters where he says to Andrea Mitchell of NBC News, that the move is an attempt by the Obama campaign “to distract and divide”, says he has no idea if anyone of the 700 staff they employ sent it. Tried to pin the story on a continued movement by the press not to question Obama the same way they cover Ms. Clinton.

“I have not previously seen this photograph,” Wolfson said. “I’m not aware that anyone in this campaign circulated it. I don’t imagine that you have any independent reporting to suggest that we did.”

Of course “I’m not aware” doesn’t mean a staffer somewhere didn’t forward without the official knowledge. An earlier statement by Maggie Williams also did not expressly deny that it could have come from somewhere in the Clinton camp.
