Obama Falters & McCain Takes the Lead in Latest Polls

March 19th, 2008

OK it is WAY too early to read much into the polling when it comes to who will win the overall election, but polls continue to be an interesting look into the way the public is thinking and feeling right now. With that said the latest Reuters/Zogby poll shows some big changes.

First Senator Obama’s lead has almost disappeared against Senator Clinton nationally. Now at 47 to 44 the Illinois Senator’s 14-point lead from February is no longer considered statistically significant falling instead into the margin of error.

Meanwhile McCain now leads Senator Obama 46 to 40 percent in a hypothetical matchup, in February the numbers were 47 to 40 with Obama taking the lead over the Arizona Senator. Against Clinton McCain leads 48 to 40, that lead is narrowed from his February numbers of 50 to 38 against the New York Senator.

Overall the poll showed Obama holding his lead with African Americans but slipping with independents and moderates and loses heavily to McCain with white voters.

From the Reuters article linked above:

The March 13-14 poll surveyed 525 likely Democratic primary voters for the matchup between Clinton and Obama. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 4.4 percentage points.

For the matchup between McCain and his Democratic rivals, 1004 likely voters were surveyed. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.

In addition a national Gallup poll from Feb. 28th – March 1st shows:

Clinton 47, Obama 44
McCain 46, Obama 44
Clinton 46, McCain 46

    What a loser.

When Ron Paul was ahead in in internet polls he would get at least 90%.
