Sunday Surprise: Mark Penn Steps Down From Clinton Campaign
April 6th, 2008
Clinton campaign senior strategist and a much maligned figure Mark Penn announced today he was stepping down. Late in the week it was revealed that Penn met with representatives of the Colombian government to help promote a free trade agreement Clinton opposes on behalf of his company “Mark, and Penn, Schoen and Berland Associates, Inc.” His company will continue to provide polling and advice to Clinton.
More than this one issue Penn has been seen as a dividing figure within the Clinton campaign and a chief architect of Clinton’s inevitability strategy that has left her trailing in delegates, states won and the popular vote.
