McCain Calls on Obama to Keep Word Over Public Financing
April 12th, 2008
The battle over Senator Obama’s sudden shift on public financing continues. Before the Illinois Senator became a master fundraiser in the 2008 race he appeared to suggest he would opt into the public campaign financing system if his Republican opponent would do the same. Now, with McCain struggling to keep up with the money battle, Obama continually makes suggestions that he will opt-out of the system, leaving McCain with a great issue to attack him with.
My take? It is easy to make promises, a lot harder to keep them. With that said, Obama is best left staying out of the system and raising as much money as possible. He should never have even suggested he would do otherwise in the first place, since he did he has to live with the consequences. The amazing monied advantage he now has is irrepressible though and he should stick with it.
