I wanted to say that this is, essentially, a non-issue. Space exploration? Really? Whereas there are some key issues that most people feel one way or the other on, I can't find myself believing that people are really moved by the idea of space exploration.

I am not going to vote for McCain just because he has a stronger support of space exploration than Obama.

What does space exploration matter? Can someone tell me exactly what it is that we are trying to accomplish in space? How does exploring Mars help our "security"? Is there some "laser" that can save us from a nuclear attack, from MARS? Or, from the Moon, for that matter? And, given Russia agressive stance, how can we trust that "partnership"

Please, please, tell me what we can gain from this topic in general. And, especially, tell me how this matters when choosing the next president?

It could also have to do with the fact that Russia was intended to provide go-between shuttle service to the Space Station after the space shuttles are retired. And, well, that's not looking so hot anymore.
