Make that 4 for Biden today
September 23rd, 2008
Reason’s Jesse Walker catches yet another gaffee from Biden during his Katie Couric interview in which he also denounced his campaign’s own ad. Biden said of the Great Depression:
When the stock market crashed, Franklin Roosevelt got on the television and didn’t just talk about the princes of greed. He said, “look, here’s what happened.”
Of course there are two problems in that.
1) Herbert Hoover was President when the stock market crashed
2) The television was still an experiment in 1929
Biden was undoubtedly referencing Roosevelts “Fireside chats” which were a series of radio broadcasts Roosevelt made between 1933 and 1944 to reassure the public during its banking crisis.
The other two flubs for today saw Biden confessing to a reporter that the Obama campaign had no intention of setting up clean coal in the US but would rather leave plants to grow in China and forced Obama himself to explain how his campaign could attack Sen. McCain for initially opposing a government bailout deal when Joe Biden also initially expressed opposition.
