Nothing will change because of it, no major scores, no major losses. With that said Clinton just a few weeks ago was demanding more of these giving the impression that she thought she would walk away from them with momentum, nothing tonight gave any evidence of that. So in short, probably not a great night for Clinton.
The Clinton camp is hoping for a debate a week. Obama’s take?
“I don’t think anybody is clamoring for more debates,†he said. “We’ve had 18 debates so far. I think we’ve had 10 more than we’ve had in the last Democratic contest.â€
He said he would agree to at least one debate, but noted, “It’s very important for me to spend time with voters.â€
I have to say, I agree, I definitely know I am not clamoring for more debates. I have no idea what is gained from these and considering here in Upstate New York we had almost no face time with any of the candidates the public would probably be better served by some visits.
Hillary Clinton’s team is pushing their plan to hold a debate a week until the March 4th primaries. The latest development is a letter sent from Clinton Campaign Manager Patti Solis Doyle to Obama Campaign Manager David Plouffe.
Mark Penn says Clinton would like to have one debate a week with Obama until March 4th including one on FOX News.
Penn said Clinton would like to see debates in Ohio, Texas, and Washington, and had already accepted three: One on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopolous, one CNN debate in Ohio February 27, and an MSNBC debate the next day hosted by Chris Matthews.
Wolfson also said Clinton has accepted a debate on Fox News, something Democrats shunned last year. That debate is scheduled for February 11, in Washington D.C., and would also air on the local Fox affiliate.
I will be calling into Blog Talk Radio Today this evening at 6:30PM Eastern so you can head me discuss the debate with Shaun Daily. I did want to toss up some thoughts about last nights debate ahead of time.
Incase you missed it, the debate was the first time Senator’s Clinton & Obama took the stage without anyone else in the spotlight. It was a significant moment for many reasons but most importantly because one of these two candidates will be the Democratic nominee. No offense to Richardson, Biden, Dodd, Kucinich, Gravel & Edwards but this is the two-person race everyone predicted a long while ago and we are finally witnessing it.
Republicans will debate in Boca Raton Florida ahead of the primary. Last chance to get in all the arguments, all the resumes, all the punches. Tune in at 9:00PM Eastern.
Politico reports that a debate to be schedule on ABC’s Sunday Program ‘This Week’ between Mitt Romney, John McCain & Mike Huckabee has fallen through. The problem? According to sources John McCain was unwilling to travel to Miami for the show saying he had previous commitments in Tampa.
Meanwhile the Romney campaign responded:
“It appears they are concerned about the format and his ability to perform well in that setting,” said spokesman Matt Rhoades a Romney spokesperson.
If you missed last nights Democratic debate in Myrtle Beach, you missed quite a show. If there were any doubts that bad blood has been spilled between Clinton & Obama, they were removed last night as the pair traded barbs that were emotionally charged and very personal. Edwards, as I noted last night, acted as a free agent spending most of the event attacking Senator Obama with Clinton but at the end he leveled some attacks at Clinton assuring that she wouldn’t walk away a victor.
