So It Begins

November 8th, 2006

First of all I want to welcome you to the blog. The mid-term elections of 2006 are barely over, the votes are still being counted, the balance of power in the Senate of the United States is still being determined but even if it doesn’t feel like it yet the race for 2008 has begun.

If you poke around this site a little you will see that things aren’t exactly up and running full speed ahead yet. In the several years I, the Election Geek, have been running Web sites I have found that things are never going to be exactly as you like them. It is often best to do a lot of work, get things setup close to how you want the look and feel and then go live long before you are really truly ready. Why? Because in the beginning few people if any are looking at this site anyway. It will be months, maybe years before you have any real traffic. So best to just get going and build up the content as you go along.

Even though election 2008 is upon us the new Congress will not take session until January meaning that the next few weeks are a perfect time for this Geek to really get started. With that out of the way let me give you a very brief rundown of what is to come.

This site picks up at the start of Election 2008 but at the same time the research has begun to tell the story of the first real election in the United States the almost uncontested election of George Washington to the presidency.
Who were the players, what did the country look like, how did it all begin? While I reconstruct the latest news and information about the current election I will also be putting together all the facts and figures from that very first to share with you.

This site is as much a chance for me to learn everything about our history and our present as it is a chance for me to impart that information to you. Here in the blog under the category of Geek Corner I will be telling my own story, letting you in on the process of keeping this site while the rest of the blog updates with the latest news, information and analysis from the current political landscape.

Though the site is a little bare at the moment it is needless to say it will fill up fast.

Democracy is the heart and soul of the United States of America. It is what set this country apart from the world in its infancy and it is what makes the United States the leader of the world today. I believe it is important for there to be one place on the Web for an accurate, non-partisan and in-depth look at this system to exist.
