So Which Is It?

June 6th, 2007

In a way, political fundraisers are a lot like school fundraisers. All parties try very hard to be the fundraising leader, annoying whoever they can to get support. But, unlike a school fundraiser, politicians are often successful at raising funds and don’t have to hawk new school supplies to their friends and families!

Right now if you visit the Huffington Post you will see the following:

HuffPo - Clinton Maxed Out

Clinton is maxed out on big donations, cannot keep up with small donations, a supposed insider reports.

MEANWHILE

If you goto Drudge you find this:

Drudge: Clinton Set to Come in Big

Clinton is scoring big with lobbyists and individual campaign donations according to a “secret spreadsheet” smuggled out of the campaign.

So which one is it?

I don’t have any idea BUT this is my thought. Clinton had a massive donor database she didn’t even come close to tapping. The prevailing wisdom ‘out there’ was that everyone jumped ship to Senator Barack Obama. My own thought? She purposely didn’t tap that list knowing they were going to do well in Q1 and saved more big donations for Q2.

I would be awfully surprised if she didn’t come in big in Q2 and awfully surprised if Obama did not do the same.

In either case I would question the mysterious sources and circumstances of both reports.
