Tom Tancredo Agrees With Barack Obama

December 2nd, 2007

During the last Republican debate a questioner asked about funding a human mission to Mars. Mike Huckabee gave a mixed response saying he didn’t know if a Mars mission specifically was the best use of government money but that greater support for the exploration of science was needed. Tom Tancredo on the other hand had a much more specific response. (Thanks to thatpoliticalblog where I found the video)

Last month Barack Obama declared that he would use money for human spaceflight development which would lead Americans not just to Mars but back to the Moon and give us a replacement for the soon to be retired shuttle fleet.

As the Columbia Journalism Review has noted Obama’s position, which differs widely from Clintons, received almost no play in the MSM. Tancredo’s position, likewise, received little either as most journalists chose to ignore policy ideas that came from the Republican debate and instead focused on the heated personal exchanges.

There have been some mentions by the MSM including Marc Kaufman’s piece in the Star Tribune, TIME, MSNBC and Wired Magazine’s coverage.
Luckily there is still a blogosphere and in it people have been talking about Obama’s position. Here is a quick roundup of some of the discussion.
