CNN’s Roland Martin is Insane
May 13th, 2008
I just heard CNN contributer Roland Martin say Obama doesn’t need West Virginia or Ohio in the general election because John McCain is not doing well with evangelicals and somehow that will relate to an immediate loss in Missouri. Is he taking the crazy pills?

No, you’re insane.
Go to http://www.270towin.com. If you play the map and give Obama and McCain the traditional blue and red states, if Obama wins Minnesota, Michigan, Iowa, Missouri, Virginia and New Mexico, he’s got 272 electoral college votes. That’s giving McCain the win in West Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire AND Florida.
Bush won Iowa by 10,000 votes. That state could be in play. Why do you think Obama is having his rally on Tuesday in Iowa?
Missouri is a battleground state. Bush won the state by less than 200,000 votes. With McCain weak with evangelicals, and a resurgent Democratic party, that state could very well be in play.
Bush won New Mexico by slightly less than 6,000 votes. That’s not in play?
Virginia has a Democratic senator, governor, and is about to get their second U.S. senator. You don’t think that’s a potential blue state?
It’s called using your brain. Try it sometime.

First of all.
If you take the 2004 actual results
Democrats 252 EV
Republicans 286
The only addition you are giving McCain is Pennsylvania and NH. Republicans already won the state.
Now, dems won MN, MI in 2004. You add IA (7), MO (11) Virginia (13) and New Mexico (5) = 36 EV
New Total =
Dems 263
Republicans 275
Obama was competitive in Iowa for the caucuses because of the overflow college vote. Look at the exit polls and you see that voters 18-29 represented 22% of those voting. That is a pretty darn high number and could translate into the fear felt by many other Dems before the caucus that college kids from surrounding states would come in and participate.
