Huckabee Equates Gay Marriage to Bestiality

January 17th, 2008

In an interview with beliefnet.com Mike Huckabee equates opening up the definition of marriage to include gay marriage is equivalent to opening it up to bestiality. (Found via TPM Election Central.)

From the site:

QUESTIONER: Is it your goal to bring the Constitution into strict conformity with the Bible? Some people would consider that a kind of dangerous undertaking, particularly given the variety of biblical interpretations.

HUCKABEE: Well, I don’t think that’s a radical view to say we’re going to affirm marriage. I think the radical view is to say that we’re going to change the definition of marriage so that it can mean two men, two women, a man and three women, a man and a child, a man and animal. Again, once we change the definition, the door is open to change it again. I think the radical position is to make a change in what’s been historic.

Uhm. How do you have Gay Marriage without Homosexuality?

Me thinks your headline was incorrect. :p

Why is it that gay marriage is equated with bestiality? This is a concept I can not wrap my head around- if gay marriage is legalized, what makes people think that by legalizing gay marriage people would want to marry animals? I’m so frustrated with these outlandish comments, which could be taken a pure hate speech because of America’s homophobia- granted, we are making strides, and I do believe our generation is becoming more open-minded, but then again, when I read something as ridiculous and this, I want to scream. There are so many misconceptions about the gay community. We are not predators, nor are we trying to marry animals. We only wish to be treated as equals- is that too much to ask?
