West Virginia Round 1 Results

West Virginia holds a State Presidential Convention. The delegates for this convention were selected from January 1st - January 14th 2008. They consist of representatives from the West Virginia Republican State Executive Committee, members of each of the County Executive Committee, Republican members of the West Virginia Legislature, Republican members of the Board of Public Works, and 1 delegate for every 1,000 registered Republicans (or fraction thereof) in each of the 55 counties.
Today All 18 Republican National Convention delegates from are pledged to the winner of the state convention with a maximum of 3 Roll Calls taking place until a majority is secured by a presidential contender, with the third- if necessary- taking place between the top two finshers, short of a majority, on the second Roll Call.
- If a Presidential Candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote on the first roll call, that candidate receives all 18 At-Large National Delegates.
- If no candidate receives more than 50 percent on the first roll call vote, a second roll call vote is taken among the three highest vote getters.
- If a candidate receives more than 50 percent on the second roll call vote, that candidate receives all 18 At-Large National Delegates.
- If no candidate receives more than 50 percent on the second roll call vote, a third roll call vote is taken between the two highest vote getters.
- The candidate receiving more than 50 percent in the third roll call vote receives all 18 At-Large National Delegates.
In the first round of balloting no candidate won a majority. Romney received 41% (464 delegate votes), Huckabee 33% (375 delegate votes), John McCain 16% of the vote (176 delegate votes) and Ron Paul 10% (118 delegate votes). A second round will now take place
