Recap of the Geraldine Ferraro Saga

March 11th, 2008

If you haven’t heard already seen this today Geraldine Ferraro, the nation’s first female candidate for Vice President, opened up the floodgates of hell against Senator Hillary Clinton today by saying the following about Barack Obama:

“I think what America feels about a woman becoming president takes a very secondary place to Obama’s campaign – to a kind of campaign that it would be hard for anyone to run against,” she said. “For one thing, you have the press, which has been uniquely hard on her. It’s been a very sexist media. Some just don’t like her. The others have gotten caught up in the Obama campaign.

“If Obama was a white man, he would not be in this position,” she continued. “And if he was a woman (of any color) he would not be in this position. He happens to be very lucky to be who he is. And the country is caught up in the concept.” Ferraro does not buy the notion of Obama as the great reconciler.

Obama’s foreign policy advisor Susan Rice called on Clinton to repudiate the comments and a fire her.

Ferraro instead defended the comments and said she was “absolutely offended” by the response.

Clinton spokesman Howard Wolfson said the camp disagreed with Ferraro.

Barack Obama personally said “I don’t think Geraldine Ferraro’s comments have any place in our politics or in the Democratic Party. They are divisive.”

THEN Hillary Clinton repudiated the comments saying:

“I do not agree with that and you know it’s regrettable that any of our supporters on both sides say things that veer off into the personal. We ought to keep this focused on the issues. That’s what this campaign should be about.”

Clinton’s campaign manager Maggie Williams released a statement, as did Obama Press Secretary Bill Burton.

Now Ferraro is charging revere-racism saying:

Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let’s address reality and the problems we’re facing in this world, you’re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up. Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?

Right now the twenty-four hour networks and the blogs are BURSTING over the news.

Hillary is a desperate bitch and Ferraro is a bitter bitch.

In business, there is an expression, the customer is always right. In politics that would be the voters. So Obama would not be where he is if he was not Black? But that is what the voters voted for. No one gave Obama 200 extra delegates or 10 extra states. No one that is but the voters. And if you are a smart politician you know they are always right and you do not blame them for how they voted.
