Hello everyone, just a quick site update note. Unfortunately I had to deactivate OpenID access. If you don’t know what that means, don’t worry about it. For those who do know, I apologize. The plugin I was using to allow such access has been spitting out weird errors and I finally decided to just disable.
My ability to blog is often limited by the natural boundaries of this site. I strive to be bi-partisan and to only talk about election related topics here. The name of the game is Election Geek, so going off on broader political tangents would be silly.
So I have decided to keep a second blog devoted to moderate politics over at Thinkers Den. There I can comment on the news of the day, deconstruct the nonsense and hopefully share a vision of the world that is unique and interesting.
I will still bring you the news of the day here and hopefully the other site will only encourage me to spend even more time on this space.
So if you have a moment check out Thinkers Den. There isn’t much there at the moment but it should hopefully expand.
Hello all, I would like to thank everyone who has been coming to the site over the last few months. I am glad you like it here and I hope you keep coming back.
With that said things are going to grind to a hault over the next few days/week. The reason? The Election Geek is getting married! Which means lots of running around and lots of time that will be occupied.
I apologize for the downtime to come but I think you will all understand. Lets hope major news doesn’t start breaking while I am away.
A new Web site The Issue linked to the site yesterday and I wanted to thank them for doing so and for contacting me with such kind words. The Issue is a daily look at what is happening in the world with a focus on bringing news and comment from around the blogosphere. They take an issue and give you the differing and evolving views. Great concept (A Blog Newspaper), great execution, great for mentioning me. ME ME ME. OK enough of that.
Check out their site and thanks again for the link.
I figured out I need to completely redo the 2008 section of the site because I made a couple errors. I originally set out to have things split up into House, Senate, Primary & General Election Categories. Then I flubbed and put all the primary information into the general election category. WOOPS, not so good. Anyway that will take a couple days to get fixed and have everything working.
In the meantime tomorrow is the Ames, Iowa Straw poll. Want to know what that is, why its important, what to expect, get the latest news & info and follow along? Why you can do all of that at the ElectionGeek Ames Iowa Straw Poll Page.
Hello everyone. It has been a bit since I’ve given a site update so I thought I would take a moment to do so.
I have the opposite problem of many Web managers out there. I have TOO MUCH content to provide, so much that there is barely anything here. Sounds kind of contradictory but its true. What I am lacking isn’t content or data but the time to actually bring it to you. See unlike all those fancy MSNBC/CNN type organizations ElectionGeek is a one man show. Just me, a laptop and a lot of data. A LOT of data.
I really apologize for this. A friend of mine, Powrsurg let me know that there was a bug with my comments section. All this time you could login to write a comment here but not register. The bug is fixed now and if you want to share your thoughts you should be able to do that with no problems.
So please feel free to now comment on whatever is here.
I have been fighting off a nasty virus of some kind all week which has left me little time to get anything done. With that said, I am trying.
Right now I have a very specific to-do-list of things needed for the site which I thought I would share. I just got done updating the 2008 Presidential Money section. I now need to update ALL of the candidates bio pages with more detailed information about their Q! earnings. The end of Q2 is on its way so I need to get this done asap.
In addition I need to:
1) Update all the candidates bio pages and CREATE those that are missing. There are a lot of them and I need to get on that
2) Update the primary section of the 2008 President section to reflect recent changes and add more detailed information
3) Spend some time with the calendar system. I need to get to know how it works better than I currently do and figure out ways of integrating it into the site more efficiently
4) Finish building a polling tracker database and then plug in as much information as I possibly can. This is going to be a big project
5) Get myself on a more regular update schedule with things like the calendar, the blog etc.
I plan on having all of that worked out by the end of Summer. Then during the Winter I can focus on just updating information while building the Senate tracking section of the site. I don’t even know if I can efficiently get to following House races this election year. We will see.
There is so much information out there and so much to do! The only good thing is I have no shortage of content to put here, just a shortage of time to get it to you.
I have put together a new forum for the site over at electiongeek.net.
I don’t expect the thing to grow by leaps and bounds overnight which is why I have put it up so early in the season. It will give me a chance to work out all the bugs, get a core group of users and let it grow naturally. BUT with that said you are all invited to stop in, sign up for an account and start the discussion.
This is a perfect opportunity to get in on a new community and help build from the ground up.
Thanks to Rob Millis for including the site in yesterdays program. (The first of MANY MANY mentions I hope). Best wishes and everyone go check out the program.
