From AFP found via Makin, Senator Hillary Clinton promised to cut the murder rate in half in America’s cities by putting 100,000 new police officers on the streets and proposing steps to decrease the prison population. Clinton would also “spend money to try to reduce gang violence and drug markets, and would promote an initiative to crack down on illegal gun trafficking. She would also spend a billion dollars to try to prevent prisoners reoffending, particularly targeting juvenile convicts.”

My take? Though it is wonderful Sen. Clinton is addressing the issue let’s be realistic, promising to cut the murder rate in half in these cities is pretty extreme. Let’s also not forget that Clinton has spent the weekend declaring her love for guns, so would banning assault rifles be part of this push to cut the murder rate? How would you go about cracking down on illegal gun trafficking? I imagine through licensing and other methods highly despised by the gun lobby and many second amendment supporters.

This is a pretty “magic beans” promise.
