Arianna Claims McCain Didn’t Vote for Bush
May 5th, 2008
Arianna Huffington, owner of the wildly successful Huffington Post and who has been on a book tour crusading against John McCain has a new charge. She says that in 2000 John McCain and his wife told her they did not vote for President Bush, his wife supposedly saying she wrote in her husbands name.
Wonkette had a pretty insightful look at the subject saying:
Arianna Huffington says John McCain told her he didn’t vote for George W. Bush in 2000, and she thinks this is some indication of “how far he’s fallen.” It could be that, or it could be that George W. Bush had ruined his chance at the presidency by racially smearing his young daughter only months earlier.
When I first read the charge I was somewhat skeptical. McCain has denied the story through a spokesman who added “consider the source” and honestly that was the thought which ran through my mind when I first read the story. With that said, if it is true I can seriously see why he wouldn’t want to vote for a man who smeared him so bad just a few months before.
Had McCain said the claim was true, it probably would only help him with independents and Democrats who are considering jumping ship if their candidate does not win.
The Post also has the following quote from longtime McCain campaigner Mark Salter:
