Obama’s Gas Guzzling
May 5th, 2008
It is that time of year again, gas prices are up, Congress and candidates are calling for Detroit to do something, everyone has a chance to point out the hypocracy of politicians denouncing SUV’s while driving away in their own gas guzzlers.
Malkin has the story of Senator Barack Obama, who this weekend attacked car manufacturers for investing in SUV’s. The problem? Barack Obama drives around in the very same not-so-fuel-efficent-cars he condemns. This isn’t the first time either. You can look back in 2006 when Obama was spotted driving a GMC Envoy, which he switched out for an even worse offender Chrysler 300C.
Obama continues to prefer big SUV’s for transportation proving once again, what is good for the goose is not so good for the gander.

1. The secret service determines the makeup of the motorcade.
2. In July 2007, Senator Obama bought a Ford Escape Hybrid.

Figure a site titled “election geek” would know election geek-type things such as the fact that the Secret Services uses GMC to escort presidents and presidential hopefuls.

So if the purpose is serving Mr. Obama it has a use, if it serves the rest of us, it doesn’t?

“So if the purpose is serving Mr. Obama it has a use, if it serves the rest of us, it doesn’t?”
No, the purpose is knowing your facts before posting them. Also you gained information from Malkin and Newsbusters, which also says something.

He bought the Hybrid AFTER reports spread that he was being hypocritical by attacking automakers while driving around in a gas guzzler.
Also I am well aware that he is often driven by the secret service. However the same argument can be made about private jets or any form of transportation. You cannot have it both ways in life. You cannot tell people who live in rural areas, soccer moms or anyone who wants to drive a car that their needs are less important and they should buy something else but your needs supersede theirs and are deserving of special treatment.
It is a constant theme with all politicians, Rep or Democrat, who seem to have a vision of the world that applies to everyone but themselves.

Thanks for the update EG. One more reason I will be voting for McCain who makes no bones about being pro-pollution and pro-Saudi Arabia funding.

Over 30,000 articles about Obama buying an Escape Hybrid over a year ago, and you somehow missed them all.

lol, You read the blog post and somehow missed that I posted to the first mention of his gas guzzling ways in 2006, which is longer than a year ago.

“Barack Obama drives around in the very same not-so-fuel-efficent-cars he condemns.”
This puts it in the present tense, making it seem that he doesn’t own the hybrid car.
There was no mention of the hybrid in your post, and no mention of the Secret Service choosing the cars in the motorcade.

Chrysler 300C is not a “worse offender” than a GMC Envoy.
EPA Milage numbers for the Envoy (w/V-6) are 14/20; the Hemi 300C pulls 15/23. The V-8 Denali would be even worse in the Envoy than the V-6.

He is currently driving around in the non-fuel efficient automobiles. The secret service can drive him around in an armored Humvee, a tank or an armored Prius for all I care, it doesn’t change the fact that he is denouncing automakers for pushing SUV’s and gas guzzlers while he is driving around in them. Plus he is flying around in private jets which are far worse polluters.
It isn’t the president’s job to decide what vehicles Americans “need” or should be buying.
If he becomes president he will travel around in an even larger caravan of armored limousines and Air Force One. Fine, but while he is out there scorning American corporations and in a sense Americans for living their lives, his pollution mark on the planet is far higher than mine as I drive around in a four-door sedan and occasionally take a trip on an airplane.
If I want to spring at some point for an SUV the president shouldn’t be waving his finger at me while driving away in his own.

“but while he is out there scorning American corporations and in a sense Americans for living their lives, his pollution mark on the planet is far higher than mine”
I have never known Obama to “scorn” Americans for driving non-hybrid cars. But maybe the definition of that word is a matter of tolerance. And, yes, of course he expends more energy than an average person because he is CAMPAIGNING FOR PRESIDENT! There is a difference between being hypocritical and choosing practical priorities. All actions have a downside. Gandhi killed bugs by peacefully protesting!! Get over it!

So, you’re basically saying that no Presidential candidate can have a pro-environmental stance because they have to travel to campaign? You’re a real deep thinker! I’d love to see your plan to transport the three Presidential hopefuls around on farts and whispers.
You drive your sedan around without a seat belt since the government shouldn’t be making those decisions for you either, right?

No, I am saying they shouldn’t have an anti-SUV message and then get into an SUV. Just as they shouldn’t come out against smoking and then light up a cigarette.
