Kucinich Lashes Out at Open Microphone Comments
July 14th, 2007
OK so if you haven’t been following, John Edwards and Hillary Clinton were caught talking to one another on an open mic. Originally most people were not sure exactly what they meant but everyone has come to believe Edwards was saying to Clinton during a forum which included all the candidates, that there should be less candidates. Clinton kind of agreed and Dennis Kucinich (If you don’t know who that is, he is running for president) got mad when he read about it the next day in the news. He didn’t actually hear it because I guarantee you Clinton & Edwards & Obama don’t talk to him but someone told him and he was pretty pissed.
Now here is my take. First and foremost they should limit these forums & debates. Nowhere in the constitution does it say a political party has to invest time, money or free advertising to a bunch of people who haven’t a shot in hell of becoming president. Sure Dennis Kucinich can and should run for president. Why he needs the red carpet rolled out or to even be taken seriously by the Democratic Party, I don’t know.
Second the greatest possible thing that could happen to John Edwards is to set the cutoff for these things to the top three candidates in terms of money, polling and sanity (though the jury is still out on that last category). With the others our Edwards looks like a viable candidate.
Third the absolute worst thing imaginable for Clinton & Obama is to limit these forums and debates. The more people up there the more they all get lost in the crowd. Edwards is just another not likely candidate when all the other candidates are on stage. You take away the wacky Mike Gravel and Edwards starts looking and sounding serious.
If Clinton could get more Democrats to run it would only help her.
Fourth, meanwhile for Barack Obama the only good thing would be to limit the debates from the top three to the top two and stop actually having debates and instead show up on Oprah to talk about feelings and the success of a good marriage and how “The Audacity of Hope” is a nice title for a book etc. Cause those last two debates, wow Barack, wow.
So there you have my analysis and a recap of the situation thus far. I am sure Kucinich will use this for all its worth so there will undoubtedly be more to come. Take it for whatever its worth.
