A World Without RSS

November 27th, 2007

So I am fighting off a major cold of some kind and my sinuses are going crazy. So sorry about the lull in updates. I am also fighting off RSS withdrawl.

You see I live on my Mac. I have become one of those uber annoying Mac zealots who hates windows and loves the Apple. However because of a little accident with my iBook (need to get a Macbook asap) it is now sitting in the repair depot while I sit infront of a thinkpad.

So much of my day is spent on my computer that switching over, even for a brief time, to a different one is painful at best. Everything is the way I want it, all my programs are the programs I love and because I am on a PC I cannot just do that little Mac thing and drag and drop an entire application to the applications folder and then just delete it. So I don’t want to go to the hassle of downloading a bunch of windows versions of the software I use the most.

The whole point of my whining though is to say this. Running this Web site is a heckuvalot easier with the beauty, simplicity and joy of RSS. If you don’t know what RSS means, then I fear for you. RSS or Really Simple Syndication lets me watch dozens of Web sites all at once. I see when they change and I can grab loads of information in very short periods of time.

I could have easily just exported my RSS list, downloaded a windows RSS reader and started over, but if it isn’t NetNewsWire I kind of feel like it isn’t worth my time.

Anyway I wanted to vent for a moment there. Hopefully my Mac, which shows up as in the process of repair at the moment from the Apple support pages, will be ready soon and I can leave XP world behind.
