My Own Opinion But… When Did MSNBC Become Liberal-ville?

December 6th, 2007

I understand the idea. FOX News is the conservative mecca of the media and Keith Olbermann with his own ultra liberal spin each night showed the network could get some better ratings by playing to the other side. As I watch the news networks each night for election coverage I am just amazed at what a titanic shift MSNBC has taken to the left and how quickly their coverage has suffered for it.

The biggest offender of partisanship lately has been the Chris Matthews hosted Hardball. At CNN the idea is to attempt to show objectivity by allowing one conservative and one liberal on at a time to shout at one another. The idea each night on Hardball appears to be to take three Obama supporters and line them up so they can bash Hillary and prove John Edwards doesn’t have a chance. It is somewhat less apparent the first four times you see it but by the fifth and sixth you catch on to the game.

Now word is on the street that Tucker Carlson, the last conservative left in MSNBC late-night, doesn’t have a long life ahead of him at the network. Meanwhile Joe Scarborough has been moved to the mornings where the network has done everything possible to water down the conservative thoughts.

With CNN having its own terrible time of keeping things objective and FOX doing everything short of using the Republican party logo as their own, I kind of feel like the last thing we need is to take yet another 24/7 news channel into the direction of opinion-driven and partisan reporting. My big hope a few years ago when MSNBC was attempting to turn itself around was that we might get real honest-to-goodness journalism or at the very least more entertaining drivel out of the venture.

Sorry to find I was wrong.
