Geek Corner - The One Where Chris Matthews Says SH$%
June 20th, 2007
Last night was interesting for news coverage.
When I got home last night MSNBC was covering Hillary Clinton very heavily. Then out of nowhere Bloomberg announced he was leaving the GOP and it turned into wall-to-wall coverage of that event. Seriously Chris Matthews went into full speculation mode. He was so into it that he let out a swearword on air while he was, at least it looked like he was, badgering everyone in the studio saying things were moving too fast, the news was breaking and they were puting Sh%t on the air. Then he came back and apologized.
The funny thing about it? The breaking news was a guy leaving his party and the racing they were doing was to have as many people who seemed to have no idea what it actually meant running as fast as they could to speculate on the subject. Meanwhile today Bloomberg said, as he continually has, he is not a candidate, will serve out his term as mayor and “I think they are wasting their time. I am not a candidate”. But Matthews & MSNBC would have had you believing the man announced, dropped $500 million into a campaign and had lawn signs at the printer that very moment.
Then I went to the gym. CNN has always been on at my gym but apparently someone got ahold of the controls and switched over to FOX News. I almost never watch that station so I was surprised as I got on the treadmill to see Bill O’Reilly in full Clinton mode. The genius who switched over to FOX at the gym also forgot to put on subtitles so I had absolutely no idea what was being said BUT it was interesting seeing them play her Sopranos spoof over and over and over again.
Seriously for all I know Bill was pointing out how horrible it was BUT they had it on a loop with ‘HILLARYCLINTON.COM’ clearly hanging at the top. I don’t know if you can officially say the thing went “viral” yesterday but the news media sure loved it.
