A Tale of Two Fundraisers

February 7th, 2008

Obama has raised almost $6 Million since Feb. 5thWhat does the awesome power of the Obama fundraising machine and the recent news of the Clinton’s financing their own campaign represent? The graphic currently on the Obama blog and to the left of this paragraph gives you an indication. Since Feb. 5th the Obama camp has brought in nearly $6 Million. They aren’t just on pace to match the whopping $30+ raised last month, they could be on the road to beating it.

That means more ads, more staffers, more organization, more drivers to caucuses, more calls, more flyers, more of everything. Where Clinton has a lead, in states like Texas, money alone might not be able to buy a win for Obama. That doesn’t necessarily matter though. Obama is set to compete all the way to the convention and he can hold those figures up to Super Delegates, along with his regular delegate count and Super Tuesday wins, as evidence that he can compete on the same level.

Clinton tightening up with campaign staff salaries and self-financing might be a good short-term strategy to compete but she is going to have to start bringing in more cash to win the perception war and to maintain her position. Since the beginning it was obvious Obama would have to spend as well as perform in order to match Clinton’s name recognition and her organization. He has done that and it is paying off.

We aren’t just talking about the expectations game, it is a matter of really having the money to put people on the ground.

Money isn’t everything but having it really does help
