All About the Benjamins (Updated see below)
April 1st, 2007
If you have been watching the news lately you probably saw more than a few stories about yesterdays first quarter deadline for fundraising by all the presidential campaigns. Each campaign doesn’t have to officially report until April 15th but Senator Hillary Clinton has announced her total, as has Gov. Bill Richardson, both Democrats, and it is likely the rest of the campaigns will either formally announce or leak their totals throughout the week.
Clinton shattered all previous records and set a high bar announcing she had raised $26 million in the first three months of fundraising and transferred in $10 million from previous campaign. Making her total cash on hand $36 million. It is unclear how much of this can be used in the primary campaign and how much was designated for the general (donors are limited to $2,600 individual donations for each) and it is also unclear how much the campaign has spent of that money in the last three months.
Gov. Bill Richardson has raised $6 million in primary campaign money and has $5 million on hand for the election.
Update:
- Mitt Romney according to the Drudge Report has raised $23 Million dollars with $20.63 million just for the primary & Rudy Giuliani has raised $17 million dollars with $14 million for the primary.
- It is being reported the Obama campaign has raised 22+ million. Broken down based on the reports Sen. Clinton raised more money with less donors ($26 million with 50,000 donors for Senator Clinton & Sen. Obama at 22+ million with 83,351). Now none of these numbers are exactly official. The Clinton numbers were leaked to The Drudge Report (as much as I can tell) and the Obama numbers were calculated based on what people are hearing from the DNC. So we will see.
