Niles Lathem writes inThe New York Post about the captured moment between Senators Clinton and McCain during the opening ceremonies for the Center for the Intrepid.
Not good. It is being reported Democratic Governor Bill Richardson has about the same poll numbers as the expected frontrunner for the Republican party John McCain. You might hear that and say “wow, great for Richardson” but actually that equates to “wow, horrible for McCain”.
Put aside how rambling and unfocused it was. Maybe that can be chalked up to a bad night or fatigue. But to speak for 50 minutes or so and not to talk about the Iraq war before a conservative audience at a crucial moment in that war is bizarre and just wrong and almost offensive in my view.
Romney’s site just has a press release with excerpts and not the whole speech.
Incase you couldn’t guess, running a Web site about an ever changing topic isn’t the easiest thing for one person to do. Especially when it isn’t his full-time job. I am, to confess, a bit swamped. But I am working on catching up.
In the meantime I thought I would just wrap-up the story of my visit to D.C. There were several protesters from this weekends peace rally on the National Mall on my plane ride back to Rochester, NY. They were talking about their experience, not directly to me but I overheard.
A part of me wanted to ask them why they would hold a rally on a Saturday, when Congress wasn’t in session but I will say the rally did get a lot of media attention even though no one else was really around to see it in person. Hell I was in town and I didn’t take the time to go out and see it either. Not that I doubt their sincerity, but I figure if you are going to protest, make it meaningful. Stop traffic, force legislators to see you in person, make some noise.
I have left the little confines of Upstate New York for a couple of days in the bright lights of Washington, D.C. That is right folks, for an Election Geek like myself this town is also known as mecca and I have arrived. With that said I have gotten little chance to actually see any of the city as I am attending a conference for my day job. One member of my team who got here earlier spent his afternoon watching a Senate debate where he saw Hillary, Obama and many other 2008 candidates. I was jealous!
Anyway a little burst of reality hit me and my compatriots on the way down here. The pilot of the plane noted not just that the temperature in D.C. was 35 degrees yesterday in the early evening but that it was twenty degrees warmer then where we had just come from. Ouch.
I joined in on Hillary Clinton’s “Conversation” with voters tonight. I have to say I was pretty impressed with the live Web chat which I found, well I will be honest, stupid when I first heard about it. I don’t know why I thought it was stupid. It could be because when you goto John Edwards site it is one new Web gadget after another with no real point. I thought this could just be one more thing. I will say that the video worked great, looked good and Ms. Clinton basically just sat down, answered questions and talked about her ideas in pretty basic but well informed chunks. She needs to stop emphasizing “that this is a conversation” so often, but I get it, that is the point.
I don’t know how scripted, to be honest, this whole thing is/was. For all I know they basically said “okay, we will field a question about X and Y and then Z” but I have no idea if that is the case so I am just going to say, job well done. Good use of technology, good idea and well executed. Looks like they are archiving these on her site.
Well this is interesting. Senator McCain has lost a little of his “Maverick” appeal lately in the media. Less stories about him going against the grain and more of his sidling up to the President. You can argue both ways on how/why that has happened, if it is accurate or not but according to Roger Simon writer in the Politico McCain may have just given the media a reason not to write the Senator off as an administration lackey.
McCain for the first time said the Iraq war was terribly mishandled and blamed the Vice President and the Secretary of Defense for its execution. He said that the President is ultimately responsible but that he was not served well by either advisor. He also noted “Rumsfeld will go down in history, along with McNamara, as one of the worst secretaries of defense in history.”
There is plenty more but you need to head over to Politico to read it.
Well John Edward’s is really going all out with technology including an updating John Edwards information Widget! If you are Mac user (like the Election Geek) you will at the very least like knowing at least one candidate’s campaign at least knows what a widget is!
Link found care of TUAW which also contains information on the creator of the widget!
