News
- Republican candidate Fred Thompson has revealed he does not attend church “regularly” and on the campaign trail he says he won’t speak out about his personal religious beliefs.
- A record high number of television viewers tuned into the first Spanish language debate. 4.6 million viewers, the highest ratings for democratic debates so far.
- Mitt Romney is distancing himself from an anti-Thompson Web site linked to his campaign advisor.
- John Edwards is being tied to more foreclosures through an investment he made in a hedge fund.
- A poorly placed Obama ad on Amazon.com linked the campaign for a short time to a book that is considered to be anti-Israel. The issue was further compounded by the fact that Zbigniew Brzezinski, a foreign policy expert whose endorsement the campaign was proud to promote, is a major supporter of the book.
The Polls
- New Bloomberg/Los Angeles Times polls taken in Iowa, New Hampshire & South Carolina show very strong leads with important groups for Hillary Clinton, inroads for Fred Thompson and losses for Mitt Romney.
- Washington Post/ABC polling shows a dramatic loss of support for Rudy Giuliani. Thompson is still polling near John McCain’s third place numbers. For the Democrats Clinton maintains her double-digit lead over Obama.
The Trail
- Hillary Clinton will be in Washington, D.C. today for a fundraiser. Barack Obama will give a policy speech (expected to be on Iraq) today in Clinton, Iowa and then attend a fundraiser.
- John McCain will attend four rallies in Iowa and then head back to D.C., Mitt Romney will be speaking in Midland, Texas and Ron Paul will attend two fundraisers and a rally in California.
