Thompson Doesn’t Remember Schiavo?
September 13th, 2007
“I can’t pass judgment on it,” said Thompson. “I know that good people were doing what they thought was best. That’s going back in history. I don’t remember the details of it.” – ABC News
It seems rather unlikely that Thompson wouldn’t be able to recall the “details” of the Schiavo case. It wasn’t exactly ancient history, it was 2005. It also wasn’t exactly a quiet little issue, it was a national obsession for quite awhile. So what can we take from it?
In my opinion, Thompson is ducking the topic, which isn’t a great idea. So far the debate moderators have done a good job of digging up little nuggets like these and using them to put candidates on the spot in debates. In addition there is that massive blogosphere out there with people, people like me, who will point it out.
Yesterday Thompson admitted he wasn’t a church-goer and wouldn’t use the pulpit to discuss his religious beliefs. Today he ducked one of the biggest unifying issues of the right in years. So what is starting to come out is a vision of Thompson NOT as the conservative savior but as one more moderate Republican candidate.
