Somewhere Beyond the Sea

October 7th, 2007

Hello all.

Incase you didn’t see the notice from the other day, I have been away at sea for the last week celebrating my honeymoon. Aw, I know, how cute. The Election Geek has a wife.

So what did I learn while I was away at sea? First off, nobody on vacation talks about elections. Surprisingly I had very little news or information about what was happening in U.S. politics at all while I was away. I had virtually no access to newspapers, the Internet was pretty darn expensive to use and the four news stations I watched FOX News, CNN International, CNN Headline News & CNBC did very little coverage. I had to wait to get my fix of the Drudge Report in order to find out what Obama & Clinton raised in Q3.

There was a telling moment during one of the comedic performances though. A joke was told during one of the performances involving President Bush hunting for Barack Obama in Afghanistan. Nobody in the audience seemed to know who Barack Obama was. The comedian picked up on it saying something along the lines of “The black people in the audience were probably the only ones who got that one. Which goes to show the problem for Obama.”

There was a little response to that from some African American’s in the audience, but overall there was little reaction either way as people just kind of looked around at each other quizzical.

Other than that, it was a week free of election news and just being as lazy as possible! I love lazy. With that said, I apologize for the temporary outage here and promise plenty of news and information to come.
